Jeremy and Cindy Thiesfeldt are proud members of the Fond du Lac community. Jeremy was born in Fond du Lac into a family of 11 children. Jeremy, his wife and their four children accepted the opportunity to return to his home town in 1999 to be a teacher at Winnebago Lutheran Academy (WLA). At WLA, Jeremy taught government and physical education courses, administered the intramural program, coached soccer, softball and basketball, and organized annual Veterans Day ceremonies. Prior to his service at WLA, Jeremy had served as an elementary school teacher and athletic director in St. Paul, MN and Lannon, WI for ten years.
Jeremy began his service to the community in elected office in 2005 when he was elected to his first of three consecutive terms on the Fond du Lac City Council. While on the Council he served as Vice President for three years.
He was elected to serve the 52nd District of the Wisconsin State Assembly in November 2010, taking office in January 2011. Four additional times (2012, 2014, 2016 & 2018) the voters of the district have recognized Jeremy's ability to represent his constituents and reelected him by large margins.
Numerous State Assembly legislative committees have benefitted from the contributions of Rep. Thiesfeldt. He is currently completing his third term as the chairman of the Education Committee and previously chaired the Consumer Protection Committee. Transportation, Judiciary, Constitution & Ethics, Children & Families, Campaigns & Elections, Family Law, Urban & Local Affairs, Corrections, Administrative Rules, and Urban Education are other committees on which he has served. He has also served significant time on a variety of special committees. He was the chair of the Joint Legislative Council Study Committee on School Data, cochair of the Speaker's Taskforce on the Common Core Standards, and also a member of the Speaker's Taskforce on Urban Education.
Jeremy has been a very active legislator both in the capitol in Madison and in the home district. He enjoys the challenge and variety that legislating offers but especially looks forward to personal interactions with his constituents. He is visible at many community events, holds town hall meetings, and frequently holds one-on-one meetings with his constituents to better understand their concerns.
Jeremy's family are active members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac where he served the 2017-18 school year as interim principal of the congregation's preschool-eighth grade elementary school. He is a member of area organizations such as the Fond du Lac Noon Rotarians, and the Fond du Lac Farm Bureau. Jeremy and Cindy have been very happily married since 1990, have been blessed with four children (and two sons-in-law) and are grateful to be members of such a family-friendly community.
